A day on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk can take you from the oceanfront park near Family Kingdom to the central promenade and SkyWheel. The Boardwalk runs one way for 1.30 miles, making a south-to-north walk a simple framework for the route.

  • Route: Second Avenue Pier to 14th Avenue Pier, one way
  • SkyWheel: opens daily at 11:00 a.m.
  • Ride: four revolutions, about 10–15 minutes
  • Public restrooms: across from SkyWheel on Ocean Boulevard
Start near the south end of the Boardwalk

Start near the south end of the Boardwalk

Begin at the Boardwalk’s southern end, where the route leads toward Second Avenue Pier and an oceanfront park. Family Kingdom Amusement Park is nearby, so you can make it an early stop before continuing north along the water. For park details, see what to know about Family Kingdom Amusement Park.

The full Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade runs between Second Avenue Pier and 14th Avenue Pier. South Carolina’s trails listing gives the one-way route as 1.30 miles. Starting at the southern end and walking north lets you follow the promenade toward its central stretch without needing to double back.

From Sea Dunes, Family Kingdom is about a 2-minute walk, making it easy to pair a park stop with the southern Boardwalk route.

Walk north toward the central promenade

Walk north toward the central promenade

The northbound walk follows the oceanfront toward the Boardwalk’s central promenade and SkyWheel. The northern section runs from 14th Avenue North Pier to Plyler Park, giving the route a clear finish point in the central area.

Keep the order flexible: stroll the southern section and park first, then continue north at your own pace. If you plan to visit the ride, arriving at the central stretch before its opening gives you time to walk the promenade before boarding. The Boardwalk is at the beach, and SkyWheel stands directly on it.

Dogs and bicycles are allowed on the Boardwalk from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. from May 1 through Labor Day. From the day after Labor Day through April 30, they are allowed at any time. If either rule affects your plans, check the official site before you go.

Make time for SkyWheel

Make time for SkyWheel

SkyWheel is on the Boardwalk at 1110 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. It opens daily at 11:00 a.m. year-round, while closing hours can change; check the official site before you go.

A standard flight includes four revolutions and takes about 10–15 minutes. Each group rides in its own private gondola. SkyWheel opened on May 20, 2011, and its operator describes it as the first of its kind in America.

Regular admission is listed as $19.99 plus tax for adults and $15.99 plus tax for children ages 3–11; children age 2 and under ride free. The homepage separately advertises online adult tickets for $20.99, so check the purchase page for the applicable price.

Regular tickets are valid for one flight within one year of purchase, while promotional tickets may have different terms. For more on the ride, see what to expect on a SkyWheel Myrtle Beach visit.

The operator may close the ride if sustained winds exceed 35 miles per hour or lightning is within a 5-mile radius. Its gondolas accommodate wheelchairs and scooters, except VIP gondolas #21 and #42. Service animals are allowed; other pets are not.

Food, rest stops, and getting back

Food, rest stops, and getting back

Public restrooms are on Ocean Boulevard between Mr. Joe White Avenue and 12th Avenue North, directly across from SkyWheel. That makes the central area a practical place to pause before or after the ride, then continue along the Boardwalk or head back.

For the return leg, you can retrace the promenade or use local transport. Coast RTA routes connect the Boardwalk with places including Market Common, Coastal Carolina University and area malls. If you’re deciding between walking, driving and transit, how to get around Myrtle Beach can help you plan the broader journey.

The Boardwalk route is one way from Second Avenue Pier to 14th Avenue Pier. If you drive, city parking rules and rates vary by location; check the City of Myrtle Beach’s official site for current details before setting out.
